The German Information and Documentation Centre for Leisure is part of the University of Applied Science in Bremen, Faculty Social Service, International Degree Course in Applied Leisure Studies (ISLS). The Centre is supporting the academic and practical work in German leisure and tourism. It acts as a link between academic and practical work. The Centre was created in 2002 with a library stock of the German Leisure Association, Erkrath. It provides all kinds of information in leisure, tourism (and related subjects). There are 20000 documents and 3000 books. Related subjects are for example: travel, culture, sports, entertainment, environment, health.

Leisure studies, why?

Leisure depends on the economic, social and political development. The individual's personal circumstances and the demands on his or her time imposed by work and everyday obligations are very important for leisure studies. In Germany, more than five million people depend - at least partially - on the leisure industry.
